Four broad concepts of health: medical (traditional, behavioural (lifestyle, socio-environmental (societal, political economy (structural-critical) These approaches lead to different definitions of problems, different strategies, different target groups, and different people responsible for the activities of promoting health. Health is related to equitable distribution of resources within a society and the organization and exercise of political and economic power by various institutions and social class interests ( the 1%"). Leading health problems defined in terms of inequity in the distribution and control of economic and social power. Of particular interest is dominance by the wealthy and the influence of multinational corporations over the economic and social life of a society at the expense of the health of the population. Origins of disease: a body of evidence is now emerging which shows that health outcomes in adulthood reflect the accumulating influence of poor socio-economic circumstances throughout life.
