HN210 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Shoulder Joint, Lesser Tubercle, Greater Tubercle
Document Summary
Function: pass glenohumeral joint & stabilize it, contribute to movement of joint; deep muscles, very close to joint. Sits: supraspinatus (only one on anterior surface, infraspinatus, teres minor, subscapularis. Attachment sites: scapula & humerus (greater tubercle) A muscle can only have an impact on a joint if it crosses the joint. Deeper in a joint = less of a prime mover. Subscapular fossa = attachment site (broad attachment) Lesser tubercle = lateral attachment site (more medial than other rotator cuff muscles) When muscles contract they shorten, pulling attachment sites closer together. Does not provide rotation (only one in rotator cuff to not cause rotation) Posterior rotator cuff muscles all attach to greater tubercle!! Attachment: middle facet greater tubercle & infraspinatus fossa. Teres major is not part of rotator cuff!!! (midterm: which of the following is not a rotator cuff muscle) Attachment: lateral border of scapula & interior facet of greater tubercle. Action: not a prime mover; assist in lateral rotation.
