Document Summary
Colonialism: is a practice in which nation states establish colonies in geographically distant locations. These colonies remain politically, socially and economically linked to their originating nation state, but may later declare and/or be granted independence. They are usually established for economic and/or military reasons, and often involve exploiting local natural resources. Perhaps most importantly, colonialism frequently involves the repression, expulsion, exploitation and even extermination of local indigenous peoples. Fanon is looking not just at colonialism, but at the process of decolonization through which previously colonized peoples fight for, declare, achieve, and/or are granted their independence.
