The secret is to work less as individuals and more as a team. As a coach, i play not my eleven best, but my best eleven - knute rockne. Forces attracting members to the group (internal factors) Resistance by members to group disruption (external factors) More recent: dynamic process which is reflected in the tendency for a group to stick together and remain united in the pursuit of its instrumental objectives and/or for the satisfaction of member affective needs . Characteristics of cohesion: multidimensional: numerous factors cause a group to stick together, dynamic: can change overtime. 3: affective: groups stick together because members like/enjoy each other"s company. Instrumental: groups stick together for task purposes (goals) I am happy with my team"s desire to win. Eg. for me, this team is one of the most important social groups to which i belong. Our team is united in trying to achieve its performance goals.
