Development of department store, credit cards, marketing, advertising. Womens roles changed -> moved away from factory for men. Suburbs -> single family dwelling -> no community: commodities to enter home, also less cleaning for women. Machines to do things women did: purchasing more. Smaller rooms and kitchens: better to have smaller kitchens, not like this today. Isolation at home made them go out to the stores.
