Hank williams stood for country and western in early 1950"s. Hank williams first hit was not his own song, it was lovesick blues. Bluegrass music developed post-ww2, bill monroe and the blue grass boys were popular during the time. Scruggs had a 3-finger roll that allowed him to play passages of greater complexity compared to other banjo players. Country was assumed to be music of low-income whites, blues were made for and made by blacks after ww1. Robert johnson was enormously influential on rock guitarists in 1936-37 period, this was in rural blues.
