Musical technology began to advance at a furious pace in the 80"s. This era saw the decline of vinyl in favor of cassette tapes then compact discs. Bootlegs and mixed-tape recordings of commercial releases posed problems for the music industry. Mtv aired first in 1981 and changed the game. Mtv sparked a second form of british invasion as british bands were ahead of the curve in terms of making videos. The video age changed rock into more of a visual art artists now needed to look like rock stars. Those who did well in this visual oriented medium were also dancers and, naturally, made dance based music. Cant fully address the importance of the king of pop his biggest achievement was putting black music on tv. It was only a short while ago (disco) that black and music industries were really integrated.
