On one hand, society is structured around a particular kind of division of labour with specific works and tasks: mechanical solidarity and organic solidarity. First describes preindustrial societies in which everyone shared the same skills, work tasks, customs, beliefs and religion. Second described an industrial society which is more heterogeneous in terms of wealth, ethnicity, religions and beliefs with high levels of specialization. On the other hand, each society had a collective conscience. Set of beliefs and sentiments common to a whole society. In mechanical, emphasis tends to be on conformity and cultural homogeneity.
