Document Summary
Po102 chapter 9: poliical violence and terrorism (cid:1) A tool that can be used to injure or effect those who are in power (economic, political) Can also be used to injure those who are challenging a regime. Chay used violence to challenge the corrupt regime in cuba in the 1950s and 60s. Nelson mandela a part of the anc and used violence to challenge the discriminatory apartheid regime in south africa. Used by groups in society that are challenging the power structure. Power often supports violence, especially when we talk about politics. We don"t usually see violence alone in the political arena - usually an implicit or explicit link to whoever is in power or whoever is trying to get into power. He isn"t backed by any kind of political faction, power, or group, but he has a political goal. Arendt would argue that he won"t achieve his goal because he isn"t backed by power.
