Influencing public policy: interest group about the members of the group getting something, pressure groups advocacy around a general issue ex. the environment, advocacy group. Self-interest groups: concerned with interests and benefits of their members, ex. unions, associations like canadian medical association. Public interest group: very broad, goal is to promote a position on a particular issue, or support a specific cause, similar/same to issue oriented groups, pro-choice and pro-life groups would fall under this label. Issue oriented group: usually spontaneous, ex. line 9, issue oriented groups can create a webpage, media picks up info, expressing a view on a particular issue. Institutionalized group: the canadian chamber of commerce, assembly of first nations (both institutionalized and self-interest, groups can morph hybrid group. Madd starts off as issue oriented but develops into a more professional group with permanency.
