Experimental and control groups: experimental: gets exposure to manipulation, control: does not get manipulation and treatment. Extraneous variable: something that will change the way manipulation is working, must think of it in advance before research design. Operationalize your variables: clear, attainable definition, some dependent variables fatigue 1-10 scale, high achievement number of ribbons, how many times someone answers a question, gpa, optimism scale, questionnaire to response to situations. Designs: quasi experimental versus experimental, cohort differences.
