There are tendencies in people to behave a certain, however the environment can change this genetic disposition. Cattell originally proposed 16 trait theories, relying on introspection. Infants have predisposition to behave a certain way within first 24 hours. Hierarchically arranged, based on responses by norms vs. psychiatric patients which show different scores to base assessments on. Allows for quick assessment of challenges within individuals. Originally suggested that environment completely determines temperament manifestation. Shows that environment imposes situations, however cognition shows individuals approach stimuli differently based upon beliefs, competencies and strategies. We show sho we are bc of where we are.
