Document Summary

Things that hold us back (make us hesitant to learn about psych) & make studies more difficult: the complexity of human behavior. 2: to understand our behaviour is simply to great of a task. Is it ethical to study human behavior a) Immigration example- north americans gave russians an unfair (north. American) iq test and didn"t let them immigrate because they weren"t. Smart enough: consequentialist theory- the consequences of possible disasters warrant unethical behaviour, opposite theory; deontologist, we can never exploit a human. Example; dr. joseph goldberger (1) he ingested fecal matter of pellagra patients to prove that it is not contagious but rather a dietary issue: psychophobia- prejudice against studying ourselves. It is threatening to learn more about ourselves: context in which humans live their lives has changed, the changes are huge- science and technology have radically altered the terms of our existence & how we define out life.
