Document Summary

Use positive reinforcement, extinction, negative reinforcement, or punishment. Adults or children who are punished often carry with them emotional baggage. Also, after punishment, behaviour is only unlikely to happen in the same conditions but not if the parent (e. g. ) is absent. Negative punishment: taking something away to decrease possibility of behaviour happening again. Positive punishment: adding something to decrease probability of behaviour happening again. Negative reinforcement taking away something to increase probability of the behaviour occurring again. Positive reinforcement rewarding you/adding something positive to increase probability of the behaviour occurring. Successful when traditional therapies are difficult to implement: System for strengthening desired behaviours through application of positive reinforcement. Can"t always give out big rewards with each time, sometimes have to add up tokens for a big reward. E. g. you get a marble every time you clean your room, with 20 marbles, you win an hour of computer time. Reinforcement techniques one of the most powerful behaviour modification techniques.
