PS102 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Observational Learning, Reward System, Operant Conditioning
Document Summary
Learning is any relatively durable change in behaviour or knowledge that is due to experience. Phobias are irrational fears of specific objects or situations and are often a result of another learning process termed classical conditioning. Conditioning involves learning connections between events that occur in an organism"s environment. The dog would normally begin to salivate when given the powder. However, after a while the dog eventually began to salivate when it heard the machine running. Terminology and procedures: unconditioned stimulus (ucs, stimulus that evokes an unconditioned response without previous conditioning, unconditioned response (ucr, unlearned reaction to an unconditioned stimulus that occurs without previous conditioning. Conditioned stimulus (cs: a previously neutral stimulus that has, through conditioning, acquired the capacity to evoke a conditioned response. Conditioned response (cr: a learned reaction to a conditioned stimulus that occurs because of previous conditioning. Trial: a trial in classical conditioning consists of any presentation of a stimulus or pair of stimuli.
