PS102 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Tabula Rasa, Classical Conditioning, B. F. Skinner
Document Summary
Learning is a process by which experiences produced a relatively enduring change in behavior or capabilities (knowing how) Based on internal responses to naturally occurring stimuli. Some things we encounter in the world naturally elicit a response in us. When we pair things that don"t have a value, or have a different value with these naturally occurring pairings, the new items will come to take on the new meaning. Ucs = unconditioned stimulus: natural stimulus, no conditioning. Ucr = unconditioned response: neutral response. Cr = conditioned response: learned response. Unconditioned stimulus (ucs: stimulus that elicits a reflexive or innate unconditional response (ucr) without prior learning. Unconditioned response (ucr: reflexive or innate response elicited by the urc with prior learning. Conditioned stimulus: stimulus, that, through association with the ucs, comes to elicited a conditioned response similar to the original ucr. Conditioned response (cr: response elicited by a conditioned stimulus.
