Stress is an emoional state resuling from perceived threat or danger. The psychological and psychological response to a condiion that threatens or challenges the individual and requires some form of adaptaion or adjustment. Major changes in life = stress: includes good and bad changes. Stressors as simuli: idenifying types of stressful events, the holmes and rahe stress scale. Stress as a transacion: peoples varied reacions to a same event, how people interpret and cope with stressful events, a criical factor: our evaluaion of the event. Major life events: major changes good or bad. Chronic stress: no clear start or inish, becomes pervasive, can be environmental. Beter predictors of physical health, depression and anxiety. Lazarus suggests that the cogniive process associated with stress involves appraisals: a primary appraisal: an evaluaion of the meaning and signiicance of situaion. Some are universal, some unique: a secondary appraisal: about how well we can cope with it.
