PS261 Lecture 4: info value of CS and SR:SS learning
Document Summary
Another factor that determines what makes an effective cs and us is how much information value the cs has about the arrival of the us. There"s an infinite number of stimuli around you anytime an us happens but the cs has to provide some information about the upcoming us. Contingency is how predictive the cs is of the us. Us is more likely to occur when the cs is on than off. Us is less likely to occur when cs is on than off. Us more likely to occur without the cs. Us is equally likely when the cs is on and off. Cs is coincidental stimulus that doesn"t predict us at all. A cs with no contingency will not produce a cr. Again shows cs has to be informative to enter into association with us. Prior conditioning with one cs blocks learning about another cs.
