PS261 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Contiguity, Reinforcement, Classical Conditioning
Document Summary
Flavors of conditioning: pavlovian/ classical conditioning, cs is followed by us, subject learns the contingency between them, behavior is elicited by the us (and later cs) R1: pressing lever, o2: water, r2: knob, o1: gets light: phase 2: r2: given knob. Every time you press the lever you decrease the amount of shock from happening/ do your homework you will not get grounded. Fail: omission training: (operant decreases probability of appetitive reinforcer): decreases response rate, press the lever (operant) to prevent food (reinforcer) The pigeon believes if he stays in one spot in the box he will receive food. If drinking is limited, mouse will run to get a drink. Increase variability of responses: discrimination of correct contingency, try harder for a little while, extinction burst, eventually, reduce responding. Enhanced extinction: rescorla- wagner says, during phase 1: The ab is going to lose more associative strength then b: we made the extinction go faster by adding in ab.
