PS261 Chapter Notes - Chapter 7: Classical Conditioning
Document Summary
You come to expect that something important will happen when you encounter a stimulus that activates the memory of the significant event or allows you to predict that the event will occur. Pavlocian conditioning is the basic process of signal learning. Specification of an instrumental response ensures that the participant will always experience certain distinctive stimuli in connection with making the response. Reinforcement of this instrumental response will result in pairing these stimuli with the reinforcer/response outcome (o) Provide potential for classical conditioning/establishment of s-o association. Presence of s comes to evoke instrumental response directly through s-r association. Response comes to be made in response to an s-o association that creates expectancy of reward. Assumes there are 2 distinct types of learning: pavlovian and instrumental conditioning that are related in a special way. During the course of instrumental conditioning, s is associated with o through pavlovian conditioning.
