PS261 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Noam Chomsky, Universal Grammar, Habituation
Document Summary
Does it have to be intentional to mean communication: intention of the sender, intention of evolution, things evolve for a reason, so we can ask, did some behavior evolve in order to communicate, ex. Smiling, communicates that that person is happy: ex. Yellow frogs are yellow because it is communicating to predators that it is poisonous. Is it associative: skinner thought that this is how a lot of communication happened, experiment, conversation between two pigeons, jack and jill, in a double operant box, see each other but cannot touch. Jill has to tell jack what color it is. Jill pecks the correct color to tell jack what color it is: jack can then confirm by pecking his correct button with the correct color. Widget: assumes that the word that he has never heard before goes with the item i"ve never seen before.
