PS263 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Adrenocorticotropic Hormone, White Blood Cell, Antibody
Document Summary
Emotions arouse the sympathetic and parasympathetic branches in the autonomic ns. James-lange: skeletal actions occur before the emotion. Emotions do not need feedback from muscle movements. These symptoms lead people to think they are going to have a panic attack, which triggers the panic attack. Disgust is shown in the insular cortex (something tastes bad) Activity in the frontal and temporal lobes. Stimulates emotions such as fear and disgust. Great activity in frontal cortex of left hemisphere- happier, outgoing, fun-loving. Great activity in right hemisphere- socially withdrawn, less satisfied with life, unpleasant emotions. Right hemisphere more responsive to emotions especially by unpleasant emotions. Moral decisions= how outcomes make us feel. Prefrontal damage- more likely to kill (trolley car dilemma) Damage to prefrontal cortex- bad decision making, slow process. Damage to ventromedial prefrontal cortex- loss a sense of guilt. Testosterone- male aggressive behaviour, need for social dominance. Decreased serotonin turnover in mice/monkeys= increased aggressive behaviour.
