Resilience- ability to recover from or adjust easily to misfortune or sustained life stress. Resilient children- who develop normally despite exposure to persistent and or prolonged stress. Protective factors- factors that modify stressors, reduce their negative impact. Csl placement, being there for the child as an external support: they can show acceptance, temperament (personality) characteristics, childs ability to cope with stressful environments. Emmy werner: children born on kauai, kids grew up in poverty, parental conflict, alcoholism, mental illness, 1/3 developed into self-confident. Capable, emotionally stable adults: easy temperament, had developed a close attachment in 1st years of life. Integrated approach: montreal community program, targets, parents, children, a self-righting tendency- towards being okay. Research shows us that even with a few positive things in their favor, they are able to get there: kids that experience the same outcome they can have completely different outcomes, family unit.
