Examples of Transformations:
Celcius to Kelvin:
K = Celcisus + 273.16
Mean = 25.32 degees celcius
Std Dev = 1.47 degrees celcius
Must convert to Kelvin
mean = 25.32 + 273.16 = 298.48 (changes when you add a constant)
standard deviation = 1.47K – this does not change when you add a constant, thus remains
1.47 but becomes K
-this is a linear transformation
Rats' Weights:
-researcher realizes scale she used to weigh the rats was off by 2lbs
-rats are 2lbs lighter than recorded, how do we correct the data, mean and SD?
