Document Summary

Re100 unit 4: the poliics of religion (naive north america) 5 formally declared wars: 1812, 1886, 1898, 1914 (2 declaraions), and 1941 (3 declaraions) 30-50 oicially named indian wars since 1775 though none was ever declared, few were concluded with treaies of peace, many were just called wars to disguise genocidal massacres. Most have trumped up explanaions to jusify them. The usa won most of the ime, but oten the win was pyrrhic or a mater of spin (1812, vietnam, or korea) Someimes the usa lost wars with naive groups, such as in the sioux wars of 1850 and 1876. Longest war = apache war(s), in which us allied with mexico (1840-1886) Prisoners of war weren"t let go unil 1917. Myth of innocence requires that one forgets/erases all of the bad that was done and to just proclaim the purity and innocence of the usa, while simultaneously proclaiming that the usa is straying from its moral roots.
