Follow the 8-fold path to put aside desire: 8-fold path living in a way that acknowledges the four noble truths. Bodhisattva person who has individually reached enlightenment but remains among us to teach others. 6th century ce: ch"an bridges buddhism teachings with chinese traditions; referred to as zen buddhism by the japanese, brought to the americas by a jap. Buddhist monk; belief that we are all already enlightened, we just need to discover that truth for ourselves. Teachings: dharma (realities of the universe); close relationship between teacher and student through meditation practices: theravada. Leads to doing right actions, able to see beauty and suffering in the world.
