Functionalists would say social inequality is a good thing- helps keep society stable. Social hierarchy based on economic inequality are a good thing for a functionalist. Role of religion in a society is to keep society stable. Social structures for a functionalists are based on shared values and norms. Anything from common norms, values customs, and traditions hold the society together. Best way to solve social problem is by finding an equilibrium. This system created greater consensus in economic matters- this will make everyone get along better and lead to a little less social inequality: conflict theory.
