Sociology chapter one the sociological perspective. Positivism was a theory of knowledge based on experience alone and not on metaphysical speculation or ungrounded philosophical concepts. In order to be positive knowledge must be situated in its proper historical context. Karl marx (1818-1883): marx believed that the engine of human history is class conflict and that capitalism is the highest stage of human development. The struggle between classes could only be ended once the working class united in revolution to throw off their chains. Marxism is not the same as communism, marx did not create communism. He is considered an early sociologist because he developed conflict theory.
