In emile"s work the division of labour in society, there are several key issues that. His thesis states: first, that there exist important social relations which tie individuals to society; and second, that the system of social relations changes as society is subject to variations in the division of labour. Social solidarity: defined as the system of social relations linking individuals to each other and to the society as a whole. Without social relations, individuals would be separate and non related. Organic solidarity societies that are more secular and individualistic due to the highly specialized tasks that are within the society creating a great division of labour. Individuals are more tied to each other than the society as a whole due to the reliance of economic function which they cannot carry out themselves. The societies cohesiveness runs on economics and occupational functions as opposed to consensus values and beliefs. Legal rules (laws) are in place instead of religious sanctions.
