Document Summary
Week 2 lecture 2 sept. 18th, 2013. These include: the economy, the political structure, the religious system, the system of law, the family system, and schooling institutions. Institutions function for the primary purpose of structuring human behaviour and patterning the social activity of populations. Specifically they do this by imposing external limits and rules of conduct which have the power to structure the acts of individuals: ex. the law is a limit that structures our acts. By 1895 a distinct theoretical perspective emerged in sociology which began to explain how the new social problems of the period were related to the structural changes and the rise of industrial economies. As a result of studying these problems , durkheim, marx and weber created a new perspective called sociological theory (structural theory)
