There are many benefits and challenges with engaging in community. These benefits and challenges can be both individual and the community oriented (ex. Learning through the experiential learning and acquiring and applying new skills and knowledge. Creating high quality policies and delivering community services in a more effective and efficient way. Noticing pertinent issues and helping government and communities to work more closely. Enhancing the reputation of the government as open, accountable and willing to listen. Creating opportunities for a diversity of voices to be heard on issues. Allowing comminutes to expect government to meet certain standards. Impacting positively on staff self image and sense of well being. Navigating cultural differences between the organizations and the community. Keeping those involved motivated when there is a lack of incentives.
