Document Summary

Ws100- january 19, 2014: criticisms of feminist movement. White women didn"t take into account the oppression of women that weren"t like them: patriarchal fear of difference, audre lord. No hierarchy of oppression (you"re either oppressed or you"re not) oppression works together. Oppression is a symptom of a system larger than us. Characteristics of an intersectional framework: considers systems of discrimination (i. e. colonialism or capitalism, patriarchy) rather than only individual acts. Is fluid, changing and continuously negotiated: based on women"s specific locations and situations instead of generalizations, diverse ways to confront social injustices, which focus on many types of discrimination instead of just one. Can"t have justice as long as aspects of your life are subject to injustice. Indigenous people are saying that"s not the source of their problem but rather other people bringing their patriarchal societies here and imposing it on them; disassociates itself with mother roles. Indigenous societies- women"s roles as mothers/reproducers is respected.
