The history and category of sex has been problematic. We never question how we made the decision of how we classify what is a male and female. Male is about all the other attributes. As a culture we want the binary. When we assign a sex category, we are entering a person into a gender performance. The binary is not along a straight spectrum. Gender is about performance, and learning about whatever sex category we have been placed into.
