ADMS 2610 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Social Democracy, Neoliberalism
Document Summary
Chapter 3: health and health care: a political economy perspective. Chapter 3 takes a look at neo-liberalism, which is basically defined as capitalism. Therefore, one average citizen does not carry the same weight because corporations have the power to lobby and completely change the direction of a policy. The author also dwells into the idea of the different welfare-state regimes which are: social-democratic, christian democratic, liberal, and ex-fascists. Generally, people residing in a country that has a social-democratic regime thrive the most, and people in a country that runs a liberal regime, suffer the most. Social-democratic regime ensures that the government is used for a greater good, while the liberal regimes ensure that corporations run the market and the government takes a step back. This chapter was a bit dry and hard to keep up with especially when you don"t have a clear head.
