Polytheistic religion was the norm, not monotheistic. They believed in god but they worshiped many gods. In mesopotamian society there would be a central god . There are gods and goddesses that can communicate with the world through prophets or signs. Egypt is an intermediate period, not as strong ; during this time different groups come into ancient egypt. Not all hebrews went to egypt, some stayed in canaan.
