The most influential and classical description of gift exchange is the gift. Use ethnographic examples from a range of societies to show the social important of giving and receiving gifts. Discussion of gift exchange that is competitive/ aggressive in nature. Generalized, balanced and negative social relations in many societies. One of the men from the lagoon clan had a tattoo on his cheek. Thought that maranda kept their octopus captive and was using the magical powers to make himself rich and famous. Lau people"s prespective of what maranda did. But they moved down and made an island out coral rocks.
