Document Summary

Using up a lot of atp you use a lot of energy. When concentration of adp gets high, means we"ve used a lot of atp. Therefore, we need to rest to replenish atp. Adenosine is the base and ribose is the sugar. (adenosine comes from rna) (deoxyribose would"ve come from dna). Guanine is also a purine vs the other kind of base which is a pyrimidine. Know what a purine is and which one is a purine and which one is a pyrimidine (thymine, cytosine, Adenosine (sugar + base) will bind to brain cell receptors called a1 receptors. Caffeine is a methylated (ch3) (non polar molecule) purine. Similar to adenonine except it doesn"t have sugar. Caffeine will bind to a1 receptors but it will not allow rest as it doesn"t turn on the internal system. Doesn"t tell brain to rest and doesn"t allow signals to pass. Caffeine is a competitive inhibitor of a1 protein.
