For example, grizzly bears, the west coast had declined by 99% compared to 300 years ago however 2 bears were introduced into the population which reduced the loss of genetic variation by 50% When a population is showing a downward trend but has not entered extinction. To avoid this, it is recommended to determine the cause of decline and reverse it.
