Document Summary

Epi (higher) controls the outcome of the phenotype regardless of the other allele"s product. Chi-squared goodness of fit test is good to determine whether gene interaction exists. 2 enzymes need to be produced to express pigment in a flower. M+/- w+/- = 9 (w/t ; both enzymes are used to create pigment) blue 9. M+/- w-/w- = 3 (mutant; one enzyme still produces the intermediate from the precursor) pink 3. M-/m- w+/- = 3 (mutant; the precursor to w is not produced, therefore even with production of w, it will not produce any product) white 3. M-/m- w-/w- = 1 (neither enzyme functions, no products produced ) white 1 ; totat. Here we can say that m is epistatic to w, and w is hypostatic to m. Same developmental pathway (9:3:4) (not in biosynthetic pathway!) Pigment produced for hair, and another mechanism needed to deposit hair pigment. Both needed to properly express the hair colour phenotype.
