Document Summary

Proportion of deaths due to infectious diseases was 63% in 1880 in the high income countries. However, today it is 6% in high income countries. Life expectancy went up by approximately 10 years due to development of vaccines and antibiotics. Since 1960 the population size increased by double. There is a big difference between rich countries and third world countries like (zambia, Lessotho) where the population was greatly reduced by people dying of aids. Aids epidemics caused a decrease of life expectancy in third world countries making infectious diseases relevant. Due to that, life expectancy in poor countries went down. Most cases of hiv and aids are in africa where about 2 million people are affected. Infectious diseases are more common in third world/lower income countries nowadays due to low vaccination rate, reduced antibiotics supply and reduced sanitation as well as they do not have money for medications. Hiv, tb and malaria, each kill 2 million people a year.
