Document Summary

Endotherms would have a higher metabolic rate since they maintain on their energy production. Higher metabolic rate for the smaller organism: endotherm and ectotherm comparison where two organisms have the same mass. The ectotherm would use less energy compared to the endotherm. Part of the energy in the organism, a significant amount of energy per year is used for reproduction. Two strategies used by organisms for energy investment in reproduction: r-seleted: producing a large number of gametes, the organisms are small in size. No parental care no reproductive energy is given for parental care: k-selected: carrying capacity of the environment the organisms are large compared at the beginning of development few offsprings are produced. A lot of energy is utilized for parental care. Cichlid fishes produce hundreds of offsprings but they are giving parental care so they would be considered k-selected. Parental care is giving in energy to protect the offspring and allow them to reach reproductive success.
