Eyes: accommodation: adaptation of the eye for near vision. Visual acuity is not affected but this is sing of intracranial p brain tumour: perrla pupils equal & round; reactive to light & accommodation; direct & Causes disconjugate vision b/c one eye deviates off the fixation point. To avoid diplopia or unclear images the brain will suppress data from weak eye & this vision will deteriorate from disuse. Treatable before age 6: visual acuity acuteness or clearness of vision; dependent on the sharpness of the retinal focus within the eye & sensitivity interpretative faculty of the brain. Eye fxn limited at birth; peripheral vision is intact. Macula absent starts developing at 4 months & finished by 8 months. Developmental landmarks: face follow: birth to 4 weeks, visual follow: 3 months, visual acuity: 42 months. Refer to ophthalmologist if vision is less than 20/30. Testing for strabismus is important in childhood it"s correctable up to age 6.
