CHEM 3050 Lecture Notes - Lecture 50: Antiporter, Symporter, Sodium-Potassium Alloy
CHEM 3050
Lecture 50
Types of Transporters
- Uniport, Symport, Antiport
- Uniport: moves one substrate at a time
- Symporter: moves two substances in the same
direction at the same time
o Movement WITH one gradient funds transport
AGAINST the other
- Antiporter: moves two substances in opposite
direction at the same time
o Movement WITH one gradient funds transport
AGAINST the other
Active Transport
- Transport that requires input of energy (moving
against a gradient)
o Na/K- ATPase, Part 1
▪ Hydrolyzes 1 ATP to pump 3 Na ions OUT
and 2 K ions IN
▪ Na ion bind to cytosolic side
▪ ATP binds and Pi transferred to Asp residue
