Memory: exteriorization of memory, memory is one of the ways we measure progress in computing technology, 10-15 years: memory has increased dramatically. Is google making us stupid: same argument as socrates, once we offload the responsibility of knowing things this invites a stupidity, we have become active users, but essentially dumb users. Draws on the work of edmond husserl. The things themselves: experience of doing things. Theory of memory: primary memory and secondary memory. Primary memory: husserl short-term, working memory the building is too large looking at it in one look. By scanning your way across you can understand it as one piece of building. Secondary memory: husserl listening to a piece of music: primary memory is what we do to keep a melody in mind while listening to a song. E(cid:272)o(cid:374)dary (cid:373)e(cid:373)ory: (cid:862)happy (cid:271)irthday(cid:863): we hold the (cid:374)otes, (cid:271)ut also predi(cid:272)t the melody. What we recall is how we predict things.
