In order for that sort of moral panic to be struck up (as in the three strike law) it has to be fertile in the grounds it is placed. Mass media is a relatively recent aspect of society. Media only started to address the masses t large with the rise of electronic devices/media (television, radios, computers, etc. ) Mass media is the most powerful agent of socialization. The crime genre is the largest of all genres displayed in media. Media is the greatest influence on people, the power of mass media to. S>m>r (sender- sends message- to the receiver) The issue; the sender has an intend. They intend for their message of influence people perceptions of reality* certain things is send without or with little distortion this is called media effects. Hypodermic (direct effects)- people will accept media messages with acceptance and little/no doubt (ex. People are not always effected by media messages in the same way.
