Last week we talked about informal controls community standards of regulating the behaviour of citizens today we discuss more formal controls and explain (cid:498)order. (cid:499) Another example of social regulation and control involves the way geography shapes behaviour through the strategic organization of space and place. If we recognize how policing originated in the efforts of the propertied classes to protect their property from others then we can see how still today policing can be control. The police as a commodity for those who have a stake in conformity. Who do the police really work for? seen as an (cid:498)exercise of privilege(cid:499). The police represent an example of formal social. Policing goes beyond legal matters and is part of the overall social order, the nature of modern society and modern social challenges.
