Document Summary

The author aims to separate the public and private sphere and claims that delinquency can be answered through the private sphere which is essentially what happens in the home within a family. She achieves this aim to a great extent which will be explored throughout various texts and examples. In addition, these texts that i have evaluated can be added to theoretical bodies of knowledge such as the control/social bond theory, differential association and strain theory. The author begins the chapter on how police officers identify problem youth as the community"s greatest concern and blamed parents for the problem . Critique: this ties nicely into a neo-liberal approach where crime prevention is individualized and the onus is put on the individual. In the case of youths, parents are responsible for making sure their children don"t end up on the wrong path.
