Outline: finish last week, decline of the rehabitative ideal, explosion of rights discourse. Criticisms: models of juvenile justice, discourses of young people. Its not the state"s fault anymore, it is the individuals. On the theme of nothing works cambridge-sommerville study: extensive study about rehab/welfare program, felt that if someone outside the family helped someone rehab, it may help, randomly assignment people to the control or experimental condition. One was getting additional support, and one was not. Avoided the stigma associated with a program . Counsellor visited the home twice a month and more often if they needed extra help and did a bunch of different things getting them jobs, tutoring, activities. Ended in 1945 and were followed longitudinally. The treatment group improved adjustment they feel that they improved. The participant and teacher said they have improved. The control group also did good through self-report and teachers .
