Document Summary

Luzviminda is the representation of three groups of islands which create the philippine archipelago and the provenance of filipino immigrants in canada (york university 2017). This is a historic collaboration among philippine dance companies, independent artists and dance researchers in toronto to celebrate the identity of filipinos as one of the fastest growing immigrant and minorities communities in canada (york university 2017). This show aims to showcase folk dance, contemporary dance, breaking and hip hop forms to allow filipino-canadians to illustrate their diasporic identities and their time in history. To begin with, what i discovered about the dance genres from viewing this concert was each genre represented an emotion connected to a certain period in history. For example the dance piece chieftans , is a traditional philippine dance from the cordillera which illustrated men preparing for battle. This genre used big movements by elongating their body, using a lot of space and making harsh noises with their body.
