Every year many men and women young and old migrate to urban cities with hopes of better future. Today, one fifth of the world"s population lives in the 600 mega cities (mumbai, dhaka etc). The population of the mega cities in the emerging economies ( india, china) is expected to reach up to 4 billion with built up area up to 600,000 square kilometer. The rapidly growing urban population has brought opportunities and challenges with itself. On one hand, urban cities offer opportunities for business and people. With a population of 8. 4 millions tajikistan ranks 96th in world population (worldpopulationreview, 2014) dushanbe, khujand (formerly leninabad), kulob, khorog (capital of gorno- badakhshan), kurgan teppe, and penjikent are few urban centres in. Access to dushanbe and other urban cities is much easier than the rest tajikistan. Limited employment opportunities in the rural areas has also accelerated the urbanization. (todaro and smith, 2012).
